30% Of Homeless Women First Experienced Homelessness As A Child - Study
30% of women who are homeless first experienced homelessness as a child, according to a new study.
The study, by the Simons Communities in Ireland, also found that 92% of women who are homeless have experienced high levels of violence and abuse.
The group is calling for homeless services to be adapted and improved.
The charity is holding a conference focusing on women in homelessness in Galway.

Expressing "deep concern", Deputy Rabbitte accused the government and Tusla of failing to address "the crisis of child homelessness which is gripping the country".

The latest monthly homeless figures have been described as "meaningless" by Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin. Deputy Ó Broin made the comment after the Minister for Housing Simon Coveney told the Housing Committee this afternoon that an additional 741 people have been removed from the official figures over the past few months.

The Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy has been accused of "knowingly manipulating the March homeless figures". Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin has called on the Minister to "admit that he and his Department officials instructed Councils to remove families in emergency accommodation arrangements from the March homeless figures".

The government has been urged to substantially increase funding for domestic violence accommodation support services. Sinn Féin TD and spokesperson on Housing, Planning and Local Government, Eoin Ó Broin, made the call following a response from Minister Katherine Zappone to a parliamentary question which showed that Tusla only received €15.
