Car sales in Ireland have increased by 30% in 2015, according to new figures.
It is understood the industry had estimated approximately 115,000 to 120,000 vehicles being sold, with the final tally exceeding expectations.
A total of 125,950 units were registered for the year, an increase from 96,000 cars in 2014.
The highest number of new cars sold was 186,000 in 2007.
In addition, petrol sales increased by 40% while diesel sales increased by 26%.
The top selling car makes were Ford, Volkswagen, Renault, Toyota and Citroen.
MD of Motorcheck.ie, Michael Rochford, said: "It is very unlikely that sales this year will reach the levels seen back in 2007, however another year of positive growth is being predicted by the sector.
"Most of the senior people whom I have spoken with in the industry have said that an increase of 15-20% this year resulting in sales of 140-150k units would be a fabulous result and they reckon its achievable."
