INMO Calls On Beaumont Hospital ED Staff To Go Off-Call
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) has called on staff at Beaumont Hospital to go off-call due to 'unsafe conditions' at its Emergency Department (ED).
The organisation stated there were 75 patients in the emergency department last night, 06 January, of which 33 were awaiting an in-patient bed.
The INMO added despite the ED being in crisis, the hospital only went off call for two hours on Tuesday, 05 January.
However, it stated the situation has been further compounded due to ambulances continuing to bring in sick patients.
INMO Industrial Relations Officer, Lorraine Monaghan, said: "The hospital is in crisis since Monday yet the appropriate actions have not been taken to address the severe overcrowding levels.
"It is imperative that the hospital goes off call immediately and remains off call until such time that the situation is brought under control."
It is understood INMO strike committees will meet later today, 07 January at the organisation's head office to discuss planned industrial action next week.
