IFA Confirms Three Nominations In Place To Contest Presidential Election
The Irish Farmers' Association (IFA) has confirmed three nominations are in place for the position of President.
The organisations Livestock Chairman Henry Burns has been nominated by Laois, Wexford, Kildare, Offaly, Kilkenny and Wicklow.
IFA's Farm Business Galway representative Joe Healy has been nominated by Galway, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.
In addition, IFA Rural Development Chairman Flor McCarthy has been nominated by Kerry, Clare, Waterford, Tipperary South, Louth and Meath.
The three candidates will each contest the election in April.

Meat Protest Highlights Farmers' Anger - IFA
A turnout of thousands of farmers at meat plants across Ireland is a strong indicator of the anger over a €350 per head cattle price gap with the UK, according to the Irish Farmers' Association (IFA). IFA President Eddie Downey made the comments following the end of a 24-hour protest yesterday late afternoon.

Norris Secures 12 Backers
Independent Senator David Norris has secured the backing of 12 Oireachtas members, just over half of what he needs to gain a place on Presidential ballot papers in the Irish Republic. Senator Katherine Zappone and TD Richard Boyd Barrett are among the parliamentarians to sign Senator Norris's nomination papers.

FF Won't Back Presidential Candidates
Fianna Fail (FF) has decided that they will not back independent candidates in the presidential election. It follows a row in Fianna Fáil over the party's presidential election strategy. Party Leader Micheal Martin put forward the motion, which was seconded by his Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív.
