SIPTU Expresses Shock At Announcement Of C&C Closure
Trade union SIPTU has expressed "shock" at the sudden closure of the C&C plant in Tipperary.
It is understood workers at the plant in Borrisoleigh, Co Tipperary, were told at a meeting at 14:00 on Tuesday was to close, putting almost 150 jobs at risk.
SIPTU Organiser, Terry Bryan, said: "Our members are in shock after management called workers into a meeting today at 2.00 p.m. in Borrisoleigh to tell them that the plant is to close. The aim for SIPTU representatives will be to prevent as many job losses as possible.
"The information concerning the plant’s closure was initially leaked to the media and our members are now struggling to come to terms with this horrendous news at the start of the new year."
He added: "The SIPTU workplace committee in Borrisoleigh will be engaging with senior management as soon as possible to establish what options are open to our members."

Up To 70 Jobs To Be Lost With Drogheda Plant Closure
Up to 70 jobs are to be lost with the closure of Rexxam, a Drogheda-based manufacturing company. SIPTU has confirmed that the Japanese-owned company, which has had its Drogheda site for 25 years, will close by the end of the year. According to SIPTU, the company claim that the closure has been caused by the loss of 80% of its customers.
