LCC Urged To Designate Woodland Park As Emergency Halting Site

Sinn Féin has called on Louth County Council to designate Woodland Park as and emergency halting site.

Party leader, Gerry Adams, made the call on Monday night following a meeting the Chief Executive of the council.

Speaking afterwards, Teachta Adams said: "I proposed at the meeting that the council develop Woodland Park as an emergency halting site and that they apply for funding from the Government to facilitate this. The Council executive has the authority to designate this site as an emergency site until a longer term solution is agreed upon. This would take the pressure off those families who were evicted, including those who are currently encamped in the KFC car park in the town.

"On Wednesday, representatives of the Dundalk Travellers will brief members of the Oireachtas. I am hosting this event in the AV Room at 5.30pm. I appeal to all Oireachtas members from Louth, or indeed any other constituency, to attend."
