New Research Reveals Decline In Unemployment

Unemployment figures in Ireland are continuing to decline, according to new research.

Data by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) reveals that 8.6% of the population were unemployed in January, down from 10.1% during the same period last year.

Business Minister Ged Nash welcomed the news.

"I am very pleased that the jobless rate continues to decline steadily this year," he said.

"30,500 people who were unemployed this time last year are now back at work – and that is very welcome. These jobs have a positive impact not only on the formerly unemployed person themselves, but on their families and the local community where they will be spending their wages."

Since 2012, the number of people without a job has steadily fallen, with more than 1,000 jobs being created each week.
