Child Dies Of Swine Flu
Ireland's Health Service Executive (HSE) has confirmed a child has died from a strain of influenza, linked to swine flu.
It is understood the child, who was from the west of Ireland, died in a Dublin hospital within the last week. They are believed to have had the H1N1 strain of influenza, responsible for the 2009 swine flu outbreak.
No further information has been released.

'At Risk Groups' Urged To Get Flu Jab
The Irish health service has today launched it's 'flu vaccination programme and has called on "at risk groups and pregnant women" especially to take up the vaccination. The Health Service Executive (HSE) today reminded everyone at risk of influenza this winter to "get the vaccine, not the 'flu!" which also protects from swine flu.

Child Dies In North From Swine Flu
The tragic death of a child who was suffering from swine flu has been confirmed. The North's Health Minister, Michael McGimpsey has today expressed his deepest sympathy to the family of the unnamed young child who died yesterday. He said that the victim was confirmed as having swine flu, but the exact cause of death of the child is not yet known.

National Swine Flu Vaccinations Begin
The Irish swine flu vaccination programme has began, as the Department of Health and Children describes the pandemic as a "national public health emergency". Some 400,000 at-risk people are to receive the injection in the coming weeks with the vaccine being offered by thousands of GPs and at Health Service Executive clinics around the country.

Teachers Meet Officials Over Swine Flu
The Irish National Teachers Organisation has met with officials from the Department of Education today in order to discuss swine flu. Both the Irish National Teachers Organisation and the Association of Secondary Teachers of Ireland have agreed that schools should reopen as normal after the summer break, despite swine flu concerns.

It has been revealed that the Department of Health do not believe Ireland has all the necessary elements in place to tackle swine flu, should a pandemic emerge. An internal document at the department last year warned there was a risk to the public due to a lack of cover arrangements in the event of an infectious disease outbreak.
