Gardaí Investigating Hotel Shooting In Dublin

Gardaí are continuing to investigate a shooting at a hotel in Dublin.

The incident happened at the Regency Hotel in Drumcondra on Friday afternoon where a weigh-in for a World Boxing Organization (WBO) title fight between Jamie Kavanagh and Antonio Joao Bento was taking place.

One man, who has since been named as 33-year-old David Byrne, was shot dead in the attack. Two other men were seriously injured.

Gardaí have said they are on high alert following the shooting and there are concerns there could be other incidents in retaliation. It is understood increased surveillance has been placed on known gang members, while armed gardaí are on duty at checkpoints throughout the city.

It is thought up to six men were involved in Friday's incident; they have not yet been identified, but at least two are thought to have travelled to Dublin from outside the country.

The force is also understood to be making international inquiries as part of their investigation through Interpol, Europol, and their liaison officers in the UK and Spain.
