Kelly's Time As Housing Minister Described As A 'Disaster'

Sinn Féin's deputy leader, Mary Lou McDonald, has described Mr Alan Kelly's time as housing minister as a "disaster".

Deputy McDonald was responding to a report from DAFT.ie on rising prices in the rental housing market and the lack of houses.

She said: "Alan Kelly has been a disaster as the Minister with responsibility for housing. His failure to deal with the crisis caused soaring rent prices over the last twelve months. This has led to untold hardship including forcing some families into homelessness.

"One of Sinn Féin's key priorities in this campaign is housing and at our manifesto launch this morning I will be setting out two measures which will be key to dealing with this crisis once and for all. Firstly we have a plan to build 100,000 social and affordable homes and secondly we will create rent certainty by linking rent increases to inflation."
