FG Manifesto 'Another Work Of Fiction' - SF

Fine Gael's election manifesto has been described as "another work of fiction" by Sinn Féin Leader Gerry Adams.

Deputy Adams said that the sequel to their five point plan was a "mere list of false promises they will break again if returned to office".

"Fine Gael's record in office is one of five years of broken promises. During the last election, they promised to to provide universal health insurance, to tackle the trolley crisis and to deliver free GP care and end prescription charges. They reneged on all of those commitments," Deputy Adams said.

"They promised political reform, 'New Politics', and to stamp out the cronyism that was the norm under Fianna Fáil. They broke all of those promises too.

"Now they are promising to abolish the USC - a proposal that will benefit high earners the most, with Enda Kenny gaining by over €8,000 while a worker earning €18,000 per annum will get a paltry €100. The same worker will be more than €1,200 a year better off under Sinn Féin.

"Similarly, workers earning over €20,000 a year will be better off under Sinn Féin. We will reduce the burden on working families by scrapping the family home tax and water charges, by providing free GP care and free prescriptions. We will also build new homes; invest in education and in childcare.

"Fine Gael and Labour were both caught out with a €2 billion gap in their figures early in the election campaign. Their sequel to Enda Kenny's five point plan is another work of fiction that's a mere list of false promises they will break again if returned to office."
