Suspicious Devices And Firearm Uncovered In Co Laois

The Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal team were called to an incident near Mountrath, Co Laois, after garda uncovered a number of suspicious devices.

It is understood that garda stopped and searched a car on the M7 at about about 18:00 on Thursday, and found a firearm and "a number of suspicious devices".

A man in his 40s and a teenage male were detained at the scene.

Both are currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 at Portlaoise Garda Station.

Garda said that the investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.

Man Injured In Meath Shooting
An investigation has been launched following a shooting incident which took place in Co Meath on Thursday, 03 August. It is believed a lone male entered the driveway of a house at Mill Close, Stamullen, and fired a number of shots at around 7pm. The shots injured the male driver of a car. His condition is unknown.

53-Year-Old Arrested Over Mullingar Murder
A 53-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Brigid Maguire in Mullingar. The body of Ms Maguire was discovered by her teenage daughter at about 21:30 on Saturday, 14 November. The suspect is currently being detained under the provision of Section 4 of the The Criminal Justice Act at Mullingar Garda Station.

Pair Arrested As Guns And Ammunition Seized In Dublin
Two men have been arrested after Gardaí seized handguns and ammunition in west Dublin. Officers intercepted a car in Clonsilla shortly after 7pm on Sunday 23 June and discovered two handguns and 30 rounds of 9mm ammunition. The two men, aged in their 20s and 30s, are currently detained at Blanchardstown Garda Station while investigations continue.

Two Arrested And Firearm Seized In Drogheda Area
Two people have been arrested and a firearm has been seized following a Gardai operation targeting dissident republican activity in the Drogheda area. On 11 July, Garda stopped and searched a car at around 3pm in the Crushrod Avenue area.
