Unions Begin Talks Over Dispute At Cadbury Factory
Talks are underway between trade unions SIPTU and Unite at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) in an attempt to settle a dispute at a Cadbury production plant in Dublin.
Around 300 workers at the facility in Coolock are continuing with work stoppages due to a management decision to outsource the jobs of 17 directly employed staff at the plant.
Mondelez, the Cadbury owners, said the decision was made in order for the plant to remain competitive in the future.
However, Unite Regional Coordinating Officer Richie Browne said the decision will herald a "move away from good permanent jobs to precarious work".
"This would be bad for the workers concerned, bad for Coolock, and ultimately bad for the company," he said.
"The unions have put forward proposals which would achieve productivity improvements and cost savings with no loss of permanent jobs," he said.
"The bottom line is that outsourcing costs jobs, and unions are determined to resist such moves in the interests of our members and the wider community."
