Two FG Cllr's To Contest Seanad General Election

Two Fine Gael councillors are to contest the Seanad General Election on the National University of Ireland Panel.

Contesting the election will be Galway City Council member, Pearce Flannery. A self employed businessperson and author, he is currently a member of the University Governing Authority of NUI Galway - Údarás na h'Ollscoile Gaillimh - and has also been a member of the Industrial Advisory Board of Galway Mayo Institute of Technology.

He is described as a pro-enterprise candidate with other personal priorities including addressing the issues of transport costs in industry, provision of state childcare, repeal of the Eighth Amendment and prioritising mental health as a mainstream issue.

Also standing is John Higgins, a Fine Gael activist and former CEO of the Western Development Partnership Board and Retirement Planning Council of Ireland. He was General Secretary of the Progressive Democrats from 1998 to 2008.

Based in Co Meath, he is campaigning on the issues of balanced regional development, community enterprise, social innovation and retirement planning. He was Fine Gael's Director of Elections in the Louth constituency for the General Election.
