Investigation Launched After Suspected Pipe Bomb Thrown At House In Cork
Gardaí in Cork have appealed for information after a suspected pipe bomb was thrown at a house in the city in the early hours of Friday morning.
It is not yet known if the cylindrical shaped device was a viable explosive, however an investigation is underway after it was discovered in the front garden of a house at Shannon Lawn on Mayfield.
A number of houses were evacuated during the security operation while the bomb disposal team from Collins Barracks examined the device.
Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious in the Shannon Lawn area of Mayfield between 1am - 3.30am to contact them.
Anyone who can assist gardaí in their investigation is asked to contact Mayfield Garda Station on 021-4558510 or the Garda Confidential Telephone on 1800 666 111.

Togher Gardaí Station in Cork city has been evacuated after a member of the public brought in a pipe bomb. An army bomb disposal team are on site and working to make the bomb safe. It is understood that a man handed in the pipe bomb after finding it at the rear of his house early this morning (Monday).

Two men and a woman have died in three separate house fires in Limerick and Kerry. In the latest incident, a man in his 60s died following a house fire in Tralee in Co Kerry. The fire broke out in the terraced house in Connolly Park at about 9.30pm yesterday. Gardaí were called to the scene at around 9.
