Ten Closure Orders Served On Food Businesses In March - FSAI
Ten Closure Orders were served on food businesses in March, according to the Food Safety Authority Ireland (FSAI).
One Prohibition Order was also served on a food firm last month.
The orders were served for breaches of food safety legislation, pursuant to the FSAI Act, 1998 and the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010. The Enforcement Orders were issued by environmental health officers in the Health Service Executive (HSE).
Dr Pamela Byrne, Chief Executive of the FSAI, stated that food businesses need to be vigilant at all times in relation to food safety to ensure full compliance with food legislation.
She said: "Food safety is of paramount importance. Unfortunately, inspectors continue to encounter negligent food safety practices and non-compliance with food legislation.
"There can be no justification for these breaches, which can potentially put consumers' health at risk and undermine the confidence they should expect to have in the safety of the food they eat.
"This has serious negative implications not only for the individual businesses involved, but for the wider food industry."
