All Politicians Urged To 'Publicly Reject Armed Groups'

All political parties and candidates have been urged to publicly reject armed groups.

Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams made the call highlighting last weekends celebrations of the 1916 Easter Rising.

Mr Adams said: "In Dublin and across Ireland at the weekend tens of thousands of republicans took part in respectful and dignified celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising.

"In doing so they sent out a clear message that they reject the pointless and futile actions of these tiny, unrepresentative armed groups.

"The peace process and agreements have secured a peaceful and democratic pathway to Irish unity.

"These groups are not advancing any political agenda; they are at war with local communities.

"The recent murder of Michael McGibbon in Ardoyne was wrong and I extend my condolences to his family.

"In this election all voters need to hear clearly from all candidates an unequivocal condemnation of these groups and their activities.

"I call on all political parties and candidates to stand together and publicly reject these groups and call for immediate an end to their actions."
