Electric Ireland To Reduce Unit Rates By 6%
Electric Ireland is to reduce its standard electricity unit rates by 6%.
Over one million customers will be affected by the change, which is due to come into effect from 01 June.
Jim Dollard, Executive Director of Electric Ireland, said: "This is Electric Ireland's third electricity price decrease in less than two years. We are committed to continually offering the best value products to our customers in a very competitive energy market place. Today's announcement is good news for Electric Ireland's 1.2 million residential electricity customers - it means the average annual residential bill for our customers will have reduced by more than €100 over the last 19 months."

A new driverless, electric shuttle bus has been unveiled in Dublin's Dockland's area as part of Dublin City Council's European Mobility Week event. As part of its 'Smart Docklands' project and in partnership with the Civic Group, Dublin City Council, has presented a "glimpse of the future" of smart and sustainable transport to Dublin.

Electric Car Incentive Welcomed
An announcement that the Irish Government is to provide a €5,000 grant to incentivise the public to purchase electric cars has been welcomed by one of the major opposition parties. Last night, Energy Minister Eamon Ryan said the grant would make electric vehicles comparable in price to conventional cars, but they would run at 20% of the cost.

Pay-As-You-Go Gas And Electric Offered To All Customers
The countries main electricity and gas suppliers will allow all customers to install pay-as-you-go meters in an effort to better manage their energy bills. Currently pay-as-you-go meters are only available to customers experiencing payment difficulties.

Electric Vehicles Grant Scheme Launched
Minister Rabbitte has announced the opening of the Electric Vehicle grant scheme. All vehicles with CO2 emissions of less than 75g CO2 per km will be eligible for a purchase subsidy of up to €5,000. Qualifying vehicles sold after 1 January 2011 are eligible for the grant, and a total of €5m has been allocated for this purpose.
