Appeal Issued Over 1991 Abduction Of Charles Brooke Pickard
Gardaí in Killarney have issued an appeal for information following the abduction and disappearance of Charles Brooke Pickard in 1991.
On Friday, 26 April 1991, Mr Pickard was abducted by a number of men and driven away in his van from the White Strand at Castlecove, Co Kerry. He has not been seen since.
Almost a month later, 16 May 1991, his navy Ford Transit van was found burned out in Shronaloughnane Forest, in the town land of Derrennageeha near Waterville, Co Kerry, 27 miles from where he was abducted.
As part of their investigation, the abduction of Mr Pickard was featured on the Monday edition of Crime Call on RTE 1.
Gardaí are appealing for any information from members of the public which they may have in relation to this matter.
Superintendent Flor Murphy speaking at Killarney Garda station said: "It is over twenty five years since Charles Brooke Pickard was last seen being bundled into his van near Castlecove, Co Kerry. He was 43 years of age at the time and his wife Penny and four young children were left behind. Sadly his daughter Lisa, died three years later in a road traffic accident.
"I genuinely believe that members of the public have information in relation to the abduction and disappearance of Charles Brooke Pickard and I would appeal for these individuals to come forward.
"Some people may not have been in a position to assist the investigation twenty five years ago but with the passage of time they may be able to help us now. Relationships, friendships and loyalties may have changed and people may be in a better position to help us now.
"I am appealing for these people to come forward and talk to us and they will be treated with the utmost sensitivity.
"We want to progress our investigations into this incident but we also want to bring some sort of closure for his wife Penny and family."
