Gangs And Drugs A 'Huge Factor' In Limerick – Quinlivan
Drugs and gang activity is still a "huge factor" in Limerick City, according to Sinn Féin's Maurice Quinlivan.
During a debate on the Order of Business on gang warfare, Deputy Quinlivan urged the government to publish legislation in order to deal with ongoing gang and drugs issues.
The Limerick TD also called on Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald to allocate an additional 100 gardaí to the city.
"What is happening in the north inner city is appalling but drug crime is not confined to Dublin," he said. "It is wrong to assume drug crime has been eliminated in Limerick.
"Drugs are still a huge factor in the city's informal economy and criminal elements continue to make huge profits while destroying communities and trading in misery.
"It's high time for the Criminal Assets Bureau to be expanded in Limerick and for the Government to amend the Proceeds of Crime Acts to ensure money seized by CAB goes back into communities affected by drugs."
