Cigarettes And Car Seized By Revenue Officers

Almost 40,000 cigarettes have been seized during the search of a car and premises in the Dublin area.

Revenue officers seized 39,800 cigarettes during the operation, as well as the car in which they were being transported.

Revenue said the seizure was made during an intelligence-led operation targeting the illegal importation and distribution of contraband cigarettes within the Dublin region.

The combined retail value of the 'Marlboro' branded cigarettes was €20,895, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €16,656.

Two men were interviewed and investigations are ongoing.

€3.1m Cigarettes Seized At Dublin Port
Customs officers at Dublin Port discovered eight million smuggled cigarettes, stored in boxes labelled “garlic and cheese tear and share”. The find was made by officers using a mobile scanner during a routine check of a refrigerated unit that had arrived at the port from Rotterdam.
