Fine Gael Calls For Max KG Waste Collection Charge
Maximum per kg rates for household waste collection should be introduced, Fine Gael TD for Louth, Peter Fitzpatrick, has said.
"I have been contacted by many constituents who are very concerned that some waste companies are imposing huge rises in bin charges," Deputy Fitzpatrick.
"These increases by the waste companies are crazy and we need to act now.
"I'm happy to hear that Minister Coveney is meeting with representatives of the waste industry this evening and has said that the Government will deal with people's concern about this.
"At present the Government sets minimum per kg rates for waste collectors for environmental purposes, but no upper limit is set in the regulations. I'm now asking the Minister to examine if this can be changed."
