Three Men Arrested After 4x4 Rams Garda Checkpoint
Three men have been arrested as part of an operation targeting burglaries and theft in rural areas of Laois, Offaly, Tipperary, Carlow and Kilkenny,
The arrests were made after a 4x4 vehicle failed to stop for a garda checkpoint just before midnight on Tuesday, 12 July, at Cloncourse, Portlaoise.
The vehicle, which is understood to have been stolen in Co Laois on 23/24 June, rammed a marked Garda car and collided with a second Garda vehicle.
Three men fled from the vehicle into a field close by. Gardaí immediately searched the area with the assistance of the Garda Air Support Unit and made the arrests a short time later.
The men, aged 36, 38 and 39, were brought to Portlaoise and Tullamore Garda Stations where they are currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
Four Gardaí received non-life threatening injuries during the incident and attended Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise. No other injuries were reported.
The scene has been preserved for technical examination.
Vehicles, trailers and farm equipment have been recovered during on-going searches in connection with the operation.
The operation was carried out by Gardaí from Laois/Offaly, Carlow/Kildare and Tipperary Garda Divisions who were assisted by Regional Support Units and the Garda Air Support Unit.

Three More Questioned Over Quinn Murder
Three men are being questioned by the PSNI about the brutal gang-murder of Co Armagh man Paul Quinn after three others were arrested by gardaí earlier. The three men arrested by the PSNI are from the Crossmaglen and Cullyhanna areas and while two are aged in their 50s, one is in his 20s.

Gardaí are investigating vehicle thefts believed to have been carried out by men posing as garda officers. According to reports a blue Nissan Qashqai was stolen at about 5am on Saturday morning near Ashbourne, Co Meath.

More than €2 million worth of drugs have been seized by Gardaí in Donaghmede, Dublin. Cannabis resin, cannabis herb and cocaine, worth and estimated €2.1 million were seized as part of an operation targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs in North Dublin.

Fourteen Men Arrested In Four-Day Garda Operation
Fourteen men, aged between 16 and 30, have been arrested as a result of a four-day Gardaí operation in Dublin. The operation was targeting street dealers in Ballymun and 14 houses were searched. During the operation officers seized cannabis herb and cocaine worth around €42,000, more than €14,000 in cash, two cars and a scrambler motorcycle.
