Garda Síochána Website Targeted By Hackers

An attempt to hack into the Garda Síochána computer system is being investigated.

According to RTÉ, the incident forced a number of internal systems to shut down last week. It is not known who was behind the attack.

The garda computer systems contain very sensitive data, from open criminal investigation files to data relating to members of the public and staff.

No data was compromised in the attack, it has been reported, but the incident is being treated seriously.

The Computer Crime Unit at the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation is investigating.

Gardaí Seize 600 Cannabis Plants In Co Cork
Cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €480,000 have been seized in Co Cork. According to Gardaí, some 600 plants and a "sophisticated cultivation system" was uncovered at Ron Na Killa in Tarelton near Macroom. A 31-year-old was arrested in connection with the find. He is being held at Bandon Garda Station.

Murder Investigation Launched After Clontarf Fire
Gardai have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a body in a house in Clontarf, north Dublin, which was destroyed in a blaze. The fire broke out around 2:30am on Thursday morning at the house on Seafield Road East. A 38-year-old man was arrested after the fire was extinguished and he was taken to Raheny Garda Station.

Fianna Fáil is calling on the Minister for Justice to consider re-opening Rush Garda Station. Senator and Seanad Spokesperson for Justice Clifford-Lee said: "Rush is a large and growing urban area with a surrounding rural hinterland. It is among the fastest-growing areas within the fastest growing constituency and county in Ireland.
