Power Restored To ESB Customers On Inis Meáin And Inis Oírr

Power has been restored to over 370 ESB customers on Inis Meáin and Inis Oírr following the completion of repair works.

ESB Network crews installed a new specialised transformer on Monday afternoon, 08 August, and connected the two generators to the islands electricity system.

A fault was discovered on a subsea cable between the Inis Mór and Inis Meáin approximately 2km off the Inis Mór coast on Friday evening.

A detailed examination of the cable and surrounding seabed is still to be carried out by ESB Networks and ESB International engineers to determine how the cable can be repaired.

This is expected to take two to four weeks.

ESB Networks apologised to customers on Inis Oírr and Inis Meáin impacted by the power outage and said it wanted to acknowledge the understanding afforded to ESB Networks crews by islanders while on Inis Oírr putting the generators and transformer in place.
