Almost 60,000 Leaving Cert Students To Receive Results
The Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton, has congratulated almost 60,000 students receiving their Leaving Certificate results.
"Today is a very important watershed in the lives of so many young people as their time in school draws to an end and the next phase of their lives begin. As thousands of students receive their results today it is a time to celebrate the culmination of a hugely formative period in their lives, together with their family, friends and teachers who have helped them along the road," Minister Bruton said.
Minister Bruton went on to urge students and parents to think carefully about their options, and to seek advice where they are uncertain.
"There are more course and career options than ever before available to students to consider after their Leaving Certificate. There is a wide range of other training and education opportunities available alongside those offered through the CAO process, such as apprenticeships and Post Leaving Certificate courses. We are also developing new apprenticeship pathways to expand opportunities for the future. So whatever your results - there is something out there for you," the Minister concluded.
The Minister for Training and Skills, John Halligan, also offered his congratulations to the 58,466 students: "I would encourage students who are considering further and higher education to consider courses in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) sectors. There are so many opportunities awaiting young people in the further education and higher education sectors in these growing sectors of our economy. These areas offer qualifications vital to economic prosperity, with exciting career prospects for graduates.
"Students should take time to consider their next steps after the Leaving Certificate and should not be afraid to take advice in this matter, from parents, teachers and other sources of guidance. Students should be acquainted with the full range of options available to them before making any decision."
