Smuggled Cigarettes Seized At Dublin Airport

Revenue officers have seized 22,000 cigarettes at Dublin airport.

The cigarettes were found in the luggage of a 45-year-old Lithuanian man who arrived in Dublin on a flight from Sweden.

He was arrested and brought before Judge Grainne O'Neill, who remanded him in custody until Tuesday, 23 August.

The smuggled Marlboro Gold cigarettes have an approximate retail value of €11,400, with an estimated potential loss to the Exchequer of around €9,100.

Smuggled Cigarettes Uncovered At Dublin Airport
An estimated €30,000 worth of cigarettes and tobacco have seized at Dublin Airport. On Tuesday, more than 20,400 cigarettes and some 57.50kg of tobacco was found in the luggage of a 40-year-old Danish man, arriving on a flight from Baghdad. The find represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of €23,000.

6.5m Smuggled Cigarettes Seized At Dublin Port
Up to 6.5 million smuggled cigarettes have been seized by Revenue officers at Dublin Port, that had arrived from Vietnam, via Rotterdam. Revenue's mobile x-ray scanner was deployed in an intelligence-led operation and the cigarettes were identified in a shipping container said to contain "paper".
