EU Ruling On Apple Tax Affairs Should Be Published Immediately

The EU Commission ruling on Apple's tax affairs in Ireland should be published immediately, Sinn Féin Finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty has said.

Teachta Doherty also said comments from Apple CEO Tim Cook on Morning Ireland were completely at odds with his testimony at the US Senate hearings in 2013.

"During this morning's interview Tim Cook categorically denies that there was any special arrangement between his company and Ireland in relation to tax rates," he said.

"However, during the 2013 US Senate hearings Apple's head of tax policy, Mr Philip Bullock said there was a tax agreement with Ireland which amounted to a maximum of approximately 2%. When this was put to Mr Cook at the hearings he said Apple had a tax incentive agreement with Ireland.

"So the comments of Mr Cook on Morning Ireland today are completely at odds with evidence given by him and his head of tax policy at the US Senate hearings in 2013.

"I have today written to the Finance Minister Michael Noonan to ask that the full ruling from the EU Commission be published immediately.

"The commission today clarified that it has given the ruling to the government and to Apple and that it is up to them to publish it.

"The government is clearly trying to push for an appeal to this ruling yet it has not even had the decency to make it public.

"We are hearing that the Dáil may called next week to debate the matter, which is something Sinn Féin has called for, but we need to have access to the full ruling ahead of any such debate."
