CER Grants Approval For €20m Listowel Gas Extension Project

The Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) has granted approval to extend the natural gas network in Kerry to Listowel.

The €20 million project will see the town connected to the existing natural gas network via a Feeder Main from Foynes in Co Limerick.

Fianna Fáil TD, John Brassil, said the CER's decision can act as a "major catalyst for the economic development of the entire county".

"Not only does this extension enable Kerry Ingredients to continue with its proposals to invest in a combined heat and power facility, but will ensure that more businesses, and potential future enterprises, access a reliable, cheaper source of heat," he said.

"Homes will also benefit as they will be able to access this cleaner source of heating, and this is something that is good news for everyone.

"This is a major boost for Listowel, but for the entire county as well. It can act as an economic catalyst for the region, and may be what is needed to get foreign companies excited about investing in the county."
