51 Arrests Made In Major Gardaí Operation Across Kilkenny

A total of 51 people have been arrested across Kilkenny during a series of raids carried out as part of Operation Thor-Project Storm.

Gardaí have carried out a total of 19 planned searches over the last three days.

15 of those arrested were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at various Garda Stations in the Kilkenny/Carlow Division. Seven of those were charged in connection with assault, misuse of drugs, theft and fraud investigations. They are due to appear before Kilkenny District Court at later dates.

35 people were arrested for court related offences. One person was arrested for the purpose of charge and appeared before Kilkenny District Court yesterday, Tuesday, 24 January.

The planned searches were coordinated by Garda search teams at a number of locations in the Kilkenny District. Quantities of heroin and cannabis herb were seized along with diesel, power tools and gas cylinders.

As part of the operation Gardaí conducted a total of 28 checkpoints. Crime Prevention leaflets were handed out to members of the public to increase the awareness of protection of personal property and possessions.

Publican Served €2,500 Fine For Diluting Vodka
A Kilkenny court has fined a publican €2,500 for watering down his vodka. Charles Malzard, of Malzard's Public House in Stoneyford, Co Kilkenny, was convicted at Kilkenny District Court and ordered to pay costs and expenses of more than €1,000. The National Consumer Agency (NCA) were alerted to the problem by a member of the public last July.

Three Arrested After Co Carlow Car Chase
Gardaí have arrested three men in Co Carlow following a chase when the car failed to stop at a checkpoint. It is understood that the incident happened just after midnight on the N80 in Clonegal. Garda gave chase as the car made off towards Carlow town. In the town, the car rammed a garda patrol car injuring three officers.

Yellow Weather Warning Issued For Heavy Rain
A yellow weather warning for rain has been put in place across many counties in Ireland. The warning came into effect at 11pm on Sunday night, 13 October, and is in place until 11.59pm on Monday, 14 October. The warning is for Munster, Connacht, Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Wexford, Offaly and Westmeath.
