Investigation Launched Into Cliffs Of Moher Death

An investigation has been launched into the death of a man who attempted a parachute jump off the Cliff of Moher.

It is understood that three men had travelled to the Cliffs early on Friday, 21 April to carry out a 'base jump'; base jumping is when a person jumps from a fixed structure or cliff wearing a parachute or wingsuit.

The first of the men completed a jump landing safely, but the second man fell on to rock below the cliff.

It is not yet know if the man's parachute failed to open, or if the man deployed it too late during the jump.

Emergency services treated the man at the scene before he was airlifted to Galway University Hospital. He was pronounced dead a short time after arrival.

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the man's death.
