Investigation Launched Into Major Blaze At Historic Cork Building

An investigation has been launched into the cause of a fire at the former St Kevin's Asylum, one of Cork's most historic buildings.

Emergency services responded to reports of a fire at the building on Lee Road at about 8.15pm on Tuesday, 04 July.

Six fire engines and a water tanker were on site overnight tackling the fire at the five-storey listed building, which was the former Our Lady's Psychiatric Hospital and has been derelict for a number of years.

Firefighters remained at the scene this morning, monitoring the building to ensure the fire is out.

It is understood that a number of youths were seen running from the building as emergency services arrived at the scene.

Anyone with any information on the fire is urged to contact garda.
