Safety Of Patients 'Paramount' After RQIA Revealed Hygiene Breaches – SF

The Sinn Féin Spokesperson For Health has said that breaches of infection control measures in the Ambulance Service must be addressed.

MLA Pat Sheehan said that in delivering health and social care services to the public, the safety of patients was "paramount", after speaking on the news that the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) had discovered breaches in hygiene standards.

Mr Sheehan also commented: "Ambulance staff provide a vital service to the public, being first to the scene of emergencies and helping people when they are at their most vulnerable. It is clear they are under increasing pressure to deliver what is often a life-saving service, due to increasing demand.

He added: "We need to support ambulance staff to continue to deliver a high standard of service. Part of that is the delivery of a comprehensive HSC workforce strategy that takes into consideration, and provides for, the current and future demand on the Ambulance Service."
