Teenagers Seriously Assaulted In Unprovoked Gang Attack In Cork City
Gardaí have issued an appeal for information on a violent attack on two teenagers in Cork city on Saturday 11 November.
According to reports, two teenagers, aged 15 and 16, were attacked by a "gang", said to number between 20 and 30 people armed with at least one knife and either a bat or metal bar.
It is understood that one of the teenagers needed surgery for a puncture wound to his kidney. The other teen was treated for a serious head wound. Gardaí believe that he was beaten with a bat or metal bar.
Gardaí have said that the teenagers had left the Wilton Shopping Centre at around 6pm on Saturday evening. A short time later they were confronted by the gang of teenagers as they walked through the nearby Wilton Court housing estate.
A garda spokesperson described the teenagers as "completely innocent" and said that there was "no apparent reason" for the attack and that the pair "just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time".
It is understood that after the gang fled the scene the injured teenagers managed to get themselves to a friend's house, before being taken to Cork University Hospital. Gardaí were alerted to the incident by the hospital.
Gardaí have appealed to anyone who witnessed the incident, or may have seen the gang in the Wilton, Sarsfield Road, Doughcloyne, or Togher areas between 5pm and 7pm on Saturday to contact gardaí at either Togher Garda Station on 021-494 7120 or Bishopstown Garda Station on 021-462 4500, or any garda station.
