Two Tourists Have Died In Kerry Pony And Trap Accident

Two American tourists have died in an incident involving a pony and trap near popular tourist attraction Gap of Dunloe in Kerry.

The couple, who were in their 60s, were travelling on a narrow mountain path, when their carriage went off the road.

They were pronounced dead at the scene and brought to University Hospital Kerry. The driver was unharmed.

The horse was also put down at the scene.

The road close to the scene has been closed by the Gardaí.

It is unknown when the road will reopen, and work on the scene is still ongoing.

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Brendan Griffin offered his condolences: "It is deeply upsetting to hear the news of the tragic accident that has claimed the lives of two tourists on holiday in Kerry. Everyone in Kerry is truly shocked and saddened. I want to offer my sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims at this most distressing time."

Woman's Body Found In County Laoise
Gardai are continuing with their investigations after the discovery of a woman's body in County Laoise. The woman, believed to be in her 30s, was found at a flat in Mountrath. The alarm was raised shortly after 8pm on Friday. A man in his 30s has been arrested in relation to the incident and is detained at Portlaoise Garda Station.

Man Injured In Kerry Stabbing
A man has been injured in a stabbing in Co Kerry. It is understood that the 35-year-old was stabbed during an incident in An Daingean. He was taken to Kerry General Hospital for treatment, but his injuries are not believed to be serious. Gardaí are investigating the incident.
