18 Arrested In Carlow Under 'Project Storm'
Gardaí have arrested 18 people in the Carlow area as part of Operation Thor - 'Project Storm'.
'Project Storm' is a a policing initiative aimed at preventing crime, disrupting criminal activity and enhancing community engagement in the Kilkenny/Carlow Division.
Officers made the arrests during a day-of-action yesterday, 25 September.
Of the 18 arrests, 16 people were detained for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 for a range of alleged offences including theft, assault, fraud, burglary and criminal damage. Ten have since been charged and will appear at local sittings of Carlow and Kilkenny District Court in the coming weeks.
A total of 36 checkpoints targeting the movement of local criminal groups were carried out during the operation resulting in one arrest and the seizure of five vehicles under the road traffic acts.
The operation was led by Gardaí from the Carlow/ Kilkenny Division, assisted by the Armed Support Unit.

Eight Years For Off-License Robbery And Assault
A man, who terrorised an elderly off-licence owner and struck him with a hammer, has been given an eight-year sentence. Judge Martin Nolan said the owner’s age, 70, must have been obvious to the raiders and that striking him with a hammer was a “gross act of violence”.

Men Arrested Over Santry Cannabis Seizure
Cannabis worth an estimated €150,000 has been seized from a home in Larchill, Santry in Dublin, on Saturday. Gardaí arrested four men in connection with the find. They are due to appear in court on Monday.

Men Arrested Over €1m Cocaine And Heroin Find
Heroin and cocaine, with an estimated street value of €1m, has been recovered in a house search in Ballyfermot on Tuesday. Gardaí arrested two men, aged in their 30s, at the scene after officers uncovered 13kgs of cocaine worth an estimated €900,000 and 1.5kgs of heroin, with an estimated value of €225,000.
