Taoiseach Accused Of Allowing Defense Services To Become An 'Afterthought'
An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has been urged to release a pending report into the inability of two Irish naval ships to launch.
Making the call, Labour spokesperson for Defence, Brendan Ryan, said: "As Minister for Defence, An Taoiseach should be able to answer the most basic of questions on defence readiness. When questioned today in the Dáil by opposition parties about reports of the failure of two naval ships to launch this morning due to inadequate staffing, he had no answers.
"We have also seen in recent weeks renewed calls for the review of defense services pay. Members of the Army, Naval Services and Air Corps are some of poorest paid public services in Ireland.
"For over a year we have been hearing about how poor pay has impacted on the quality of living for families of servicemen and women. Yet, An Taoiseach has presented no plan to address the issues raised by Pdforra and service-members.
"It seems to me that An Taoiseach has allowed Defense to become an afterthought."

Green Financial Services May Create 7,000 Jobs
The current Taoiseach, Brian Cowen, has announced he believes new 'green' financial services could produce 7,000 jobs and "put Ireland at the heart of green business". According to Mr Cowen today, the Green International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) will target environmentally related financial services bringing employment and revenue.

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has met with French President, Francois Hollande, to discuss a range of EU counter-terrorism measures and the impact of the UK's Brexit decision. During the meeting the Taoiseach reiterated the sympathy and solidarity of the Irish people with France in the wake of the attack in Nice on 14 July.

Former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds Dies Aged 81
Former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds has died aged 81. Reynolds, born in Rooskey, Co Roscommon, served as a minister in a number of governmental departments and was elected Taoiseach on two occasions. He has been honoured as playing an integral role in the Northern Ireland peace process. His death was announced by his eldest son, Philip Reynolds.

Taoiseach Urged To Act Quickly On New Minister Of Defence
The Taoiseach has been urged to to move quickly to appoint a new Minister for Defence. Following the resignation of Alan Shatter responsibility for the defence portfolio lies with the Taoiseach's department, but Fianna Fail have raiosed concerns over how long the interim period might last.
