Taoiseach Condemns L'Derry Bomb Attack

The Taoiseach has spoken out to condemn those responsible for setting a car bomb in L'Derry city centre which detonated on Saturday evening.

The explosion occurred shortly after 8pm on 19 January, minutes after police officers received information about the planted bomb and evacuated the surrounding area.

Part of Bishop Street remains cordoned off, with the courthouse closed until Tuesday.

Leo Varadkar branded the attack, which police believe is the work of a dissident republican group, as an "appalling, reckless and cynical act of terror".

"Violence to achieve political objectives has been rejected by the people of this island again and again," the Taoiseach continued.

"The Government condemns it in the strongest possible terms."

Four men have been arrested in connection with the bomb.
