Households Suspected Of Illegally Dumping Waste To Be Inspected
Thousands of households who don't use authorised bin collection companies are going to be inspected as part of a nationwide crackdown on illegal dumping.
Local authorities are passing by-laws throughout the State to increase their powers to act on the issue.
Licensed bin collectors will share Eircodes of paying customers with local authorities, allowing them to pinpoint those with no registered waste-collection service, according to the Irish Times.
Those who claim to use recycling centres or similar facilities, or who claim to share bins with neighbours, will be required to show proof to TV Licence style inspectors.
A €75 fixed-penalty notice will be issued to anyone without a satisfactory system in place. Repeat offenders could also be brought before the courts and face fines of up to €2,500.
