Parking Prices Set To Rise In Dublin City
Dublin City Councillors have approved a proposal to increase parking charges in the city.
Prices will be hiked up by 10% in July, marking the first rise in fares since 2008.
A €9 per hour fee for coaches was also approved and will now go for public consultation.
The coach parking charge is proposed for designated bays and a recent meeting of the council's Transport Committee heard the plan is to encourage operators to use facilities like the depot provided by the National Transport Authority on North Wall Quay.
The proposals would see pay and display charges in Yellow Zones, which are very high in demand, increase from €2.90 per hour to €3.20 Monday to Saturday, while the Red Zone would go up from €2.40 to €2.70.
Prices will be 10c an hour less for those using the Parking Tag mobile app.
In addition, the Yellow Zone will be extended further North in Dublin as far as the North Circular Road and Mountjoy Prison, as well as streets surrounding the Mater Hospital, Blessington Street and Mountjoy Square.
The Red Zone will also be extended to include the Ranelagh, Rathmines and the Quays at the 3 Arena and all of Sir John Rogerson's Quay.
The Green Zone charge, which is in medium demand, is staying at €1.60 but the area will be extended to include Kilmainham, the South Circular Road and Dolphins Barn.
Parking Enforcement officer Dermot Stevenson told a meeting of the council's Transport Committee that the zones are being widened because of increased parking demand.
