On-Duty Firefighter Arrested On Suspicion Of Drink Driving

A fireman has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving while on duty behind the wheel of a fire engine.

The man was driving a fire truck on the Callan Road, Kilkenny over the weekend and approached a checkpoint.

It is believed he was returning from an emergency incident and failed a breath test.

He was issued a fixed charged penalty notice.

Decision To Overturn Breath Testing Welcomed
The Court of Appeal has overturned a ruling saying that breath tests must be in English and Irish, saying it brings "much needed clarity". A ruling that breathalyser test statements were not valid if printed in the English language only had held up 1,400 alleged drink driving prosecutions and caused confusion over the last few months.
