28.5% Annual Increase In Fraud Offences
Fraud related offences have risen by 28.5% over the last year, new figures have shown.
Crime incident data from An Garda Síochána also shows a 10% rise in the number of recorded sexual offences, from 2,938 to 3,231, while controlled drug offences also increased by 16.2%.
There were 12 less homicide offences recorded over the last 12 months, representing a 14.3% decrease. The number of recorded burglaries also fell by 10.3%.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) today published the recorded crime statistics for the second quarter of 2011. Speaking on publication, the Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence, Mr Alan Shatter, welcomed the decreases in all of the 14 crime groups, compared with the same quarter in 2010.

Third Irish National Charged With Drugs And Firearms Offences In The UK
A 52-year-old Irish man has been charged with drugs and firearms offences by the United Kingdom's National Crime Agency officers as part of an ongoing investigation undertaken with the cooperation of Gardaí. Two other Irish nationals (males aged 37 and 41) were previously charged in connection with the same investigation.
