Pair Rescued From Submerged Camper-Van In County Kerry
Two people have been rescued from the roof of their submerged camper-van in County Kerry.
The incident at Carrig Island saw a camper-van caught out by the tide shortly after 5am on Wednesday 31 July. Both of the occupants made their way to the roof of the van as the tide continued to rise around them.
A Kilrush RNLI lifeboat arrived on scene at 5.26am to join local fire service and Garda personnel, who had managed to assist both casualties from the water into an awaiting ambulance.
The RNLI has since urged members of the public to always respect the water and check the time, height and direction of the tide before heading out.
Charlie Glynn from Kilrush RNLI said: "Tides have a reputation for being unpredictable, but really they follow a timetable more reliable than most trains. A shoreline can be a vast playground but the tide can come in surprisingly quickly. Ensure that you have a fully charged mobile phone, or some other means of calling for assistance, in case you get into difficulty."
