584,000 Cigarettes Seized At Dublin Port

An intelligence-led revenue operation at Dublin Port has saw 584,000 illegal cigarettes taken out of circulation.

Officers discovered the unstamped cigarettes with the assistance of an X-ray scanner on Friday 02 August. They were located in a shipment from Rotterdam that originated in China.

Branded as 'Marlboro Gold' and 'MB Blue', the illegal cigarettes have a retail value of over €292,000, representing a potential loss to the exchequer of €274,000. They were concealed in a shipment labelled as 'tea tables'.

Investigations are ongoing.

This seizure is part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products in the shadow economy. If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact revenue on confidential phone line 1800 295 295.
