€79k Cash Seized At Dublin Port

Revenue officers have been granted a three month cash detention order at Dublin District Court following the seizure of over €79,000 at Dublin Port.

The cash was discovered following routine examinations of vehicles travelling to France, when revenue detector dog James showed interest in a particular vehicle. When stopped and searched by officers, the vehicle was also scanned using Revenue's Mobile X-Ray Scanner Unit.

The search and subsequent scan resulted in the discovery of two packages containing the cash, €79,110, which was concealed underneath the vehicle.

Investigations are ongoing following the routine operation as part of Revenue's ongoing work targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity.

If businesses or members of the public have any information on the matter they can contact Revenue in confidence on the confidential phone line 1800 295 295.
