Weather Warnings Issued As Storm Lorenzo Remains On Course For Ireland
Met Éireann have issued a Status Orange wind warning for six counties and a nationwide Status Yellow weather warning as Storm Lorenzo is expected to reach Ireland on Thursday.
The Status Orange 'be prepared' warning – which signifies dangerous weather conditions which may pose a threat to life and property – has been issued for Counties Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick from 6pm on Thursday until 3am on Friday.
Met Éireann said southwesterly winds veering westerly will reach mean speeds 65 to 80km/h, with gusts generally of 100 to 130km/h, higher in coastal regions. Storm surges will produce coastal flooding and damage.
Separately, two nationwide Status Yellow 'be aware' warnings have been issued for both rainfall and wind between 9am on Thursday until 9am on Friday.
Met Éireann said that spells of heavy rain, in excess of 50mm in parts of the west and north west, will result in flooding.
Storm Lorenzo is said to be the most northerly and most easterly large hurricane ever to form over the Atlantic Ocean.
