Two Status Yellow Weather Warnings For Wind And Rain
Two Status Yellow weather warnings have been issued by national forecast Met Éireann.
A wind warning for Donegal, Galway, Mayo and Kerry will come into force at 3pm today, Friday 10 January.
Met Éireann said that south to southwest winds 50 to 65 km/hr, with gusts up 90 to 110 km/hr, are expected across the region. Winds will be strongest on exposed coasts and hills. At the coast, high seas and gales will combine to give a risk of coastal flooding.
A rainfall warning has also been issued for Connacht and Donegal, from 3pm today.
The forecaster said that heavy rain is expected with accumulations of 40-50mm over the period and a risk of localised flooding.

Wind Farm Academy To Boost Donegal
A National Wind Energy Academy is being established at Letterkenny Institute of Technology as part of a €500,000 initiative being backed by the Donegal County Development Board. The first phase will see the development of a wind turbine maintenance programme which will be delivered in conjunction with BZEE, a German centre for renewable energy.

West to southwest winds of mean speeds 45 to 65km/h with gusts of 90 to 110km/h are expected in western coastal counties throughout Friday and in the northwest during Friday afternoon and evening.

The forecaster said that winds of up to 75 km/h are expected in coastal areas and this could increase up to 110 km/h later into the evening. The worst wind is expected in counties Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo and Clare.
