Student Garda To Be Called Up Early Over Disorder Fears
Gardaí are set to announce a new policing plan to respond to the current Covid-19 outbreak.
It is understood that garda will step up "high visibility" patrols in an effort to provide "comfort and support to communities".
According to reports, garda had to attend a supermarket in Dublin 15 as altercations were breaking out between customers stockpiling items.
It is understood that more than 320 student garda officers are to be called up to bolster patrols, along with the hiring of 210 extra vehicles. It has also been reported that officers due to retire in April will be offered the opportunity to stay with the force for an extra three months.

Justice And Equality Budget To Increase By €85m
The budget for the Justice and Equality sector is to be increased by €85 million, totalling €2.54 billion in 2017. Funding has been provided for the recruitment of 800 Garda recruits in 2017 and up to 500 civilians to support the wide ranging reform plan in train in An Garda Síochána. A total of €71.

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has committed to increase garda numbers to 15,000, double the number of garda reserve officers and increase the number of civilian workers in An Garda Síochána to free up officers for frontline policing.
