Graduation Fraud Investigated In Cork

An events organiser in County Cork who failed to pass on booking deposits to a number of hotels is the subject of investigations by the Garda Fraud Office.

The organiser received payments of 75 euro from almost 3,000 students across 19 Cork city and county schools.

The payments were for the students’ graduation celebrations and the organiser has claimed that the 186,000 euro collected from the students went towards paying off debts from last year’s events.

The Silver Springs Moran Hotel, one of the hotels involved, have said that they will honour the 19 dates that have been booked but students will now have to pay out more money as the hotel will host the graduation events at cost price.
