39-Year-Old Jailed On Drugs Charge

A 39-year-old father of five has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for mixing cocaine at his home in Dublin.

Rory Lyons from Blanchardstown, west Dublin was caught with almost 500,000 euro worth of cocaine along with other drug paraphernalia such as a mixing agent and an industrial compressor.

The Blanchardstown Drugs Unit raided Lyons’ house on 21 September 2004 where they found him wearing Latex gloves and surrounded by buckets of the mixing agent manitol.

Lyons was mixing the cocaine at his home in Fortlawn Park in Blanchardstown for a drugs gang that were run by the Glennon brothers who were both shot dead in gang-related killings in 2005.

Lyons claimed in court that he was a cocaine addict and an alcoholic but Judge Katherine Delahunt said evidence showed that he was a recreational drug user and the offence was made more serious by the fact that he was involved in manufacturing the drug.

Lyons was sentenced to 12 years in prison but the final four years have been suspended due to his family circumstances.
